Survey Instrument Operator

Position Summary

The Instrument Operator will join our surveying group in Nassau County in our Woodbury office.  The successful candidate must possess general knowledge of land surveying principles and practices and must be able to perform under the direction of the Survey Crew Chief. This position will be based in Nassau County at our Woodbury office.

• Assist in the coordination of field activities, including the effective operations, performance, and maintenance of all survey equipment.
• Possess field experience in all types of land surveying, including boundary, topographic, utility, and construction stake-out, along with a history in data collection and instrument operations.
• Operate field equipment such as conventional total stations and data collectors and providing support to tasks assigned by the Crew Chief.
• May oversee a field crew's daily operations of all field activities including boundary, topographic and as built surveys, and construction layout.
• Perform all other duties assigned by management.

• 3 years of land survey experience + HS Diploma or G.E.D.
• Good working knowledge and proficiency with modern survey devices and modern survey methods, including competence in operating conventional total stations and data collector to include setting up, modifying settings as need arises, and ability to perform simple calculations, compute offsets and points.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, subordinates, and related personnel.
• Strong communication skills.
• Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime as needed.
• Physical ability to work outdoors on project sites that may extend several miles, carry equipment, and walk throughout the day.
• Experience with Leica total stations and scanners a plus.
• Working knowledge of Static and RTK GPS desired but not required.
• Must possess a valid, unrestricted driver’s license.

*The salary range for this position is $62,000 - $74,000.    Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, peer and market data, and geographic location. 

**This position may be subject to New York State prevailing wage laws as outlined in Articles 8 and 9 of the New York State Labor Law.  The prevailing wage rates are determined by the New York State Department of Labor and can vary based on the location and type of work.
