Position Summary

 

The Instrument Operator will join our surveying group in Wall, NJ as a traveling Instrument Operator covering Texas to Pennsylvania.  The successful candidates must possess general knowledge of land surveying principles and practices and must be able to perform under the direction of the Survey Crew Chief.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the coordination of field activities, including the effective operations, performance, and maintenance of all survey equipment.
  • Possess field experience in all types of land surveying, including boundary, topographic, physical, and construction stake-out, along with a history in data collection and instrument operations.
  • Operate field equipment such as GPS, conventional total stations, and data collectors, providing front-end locations and stakeouts, and providing support to tasks assigned by the Party Chief.
  • May oversee a field crew's daily operations of all field activities including boundary, topographic and as built surveys, and construction layout.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by management.

 

Qualifications

  • 3 years of land survey experience + HS Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Good working knowledge and proficiency with modern survey devices and modern survey methods, including competence in operating conventional total stations and data collector to include setting up, modifying settings as need arises, and ability to perform simple calculations, compute offsets and points.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, subordinates, and related personnel.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Willing and able to travel for extended periods as needed.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime as needed.
  • Physical ability to work outdoors on project sites that may extend several miles, carry equipment, and walk throughout the day.
  • Experience with Topcon Total Stations, and TDS Data Collectors a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Static and RTK GPS desired but not required.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted driver’s license.
